Description

Based on recipe from American Barbecue Sauces by Steven Raichlen.

Ingredients

  • 6 Tbsp cups brown sugar
  • ½ cup cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • ¼ honey
  • ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Tbsp dark rum
  • 2 Tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 Tbsp liquid smoke
  • 2 dashes cayenne pepper
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp found allspice
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • 1 ½ tsp black pepper
  • 4 cups ketchup

Directions

Heat all except ketchup in a sauce pan and stir until everything is dissolved. Then add the ketchup and bring to boil and then simmer for 15 to 20 min.

Season to taste with salt and pepper and then cool to room temperature.

This makes a fair amount of sauce so refrigerate and freeze to keep.
